Local t-government Standards Body (LeGSB)
The Local t-government Standards Body has been established to ensure that the National Local t-government Strategy www.localegov.gov.uk is supported with effective and appropriate standards and mechanisms to exploit existing projects, products and services. Its primary aims are to provide: easy access to comprehensive and authoritative best practice; information on local service interoperability standards; analysis and development of standards; and scrutiny of t-government projects.
The Body will establish an information repository of t-government schemes and their impact on and contribution to local t-government standards; provide effective publicity and dissemination of local t-government standards and projects; deliver practical support and high quality advice to Councils, their partners and suppliers on the interpretation and adoption of local t-government standards.
ESRI (UK) is actively involved in creating a number of associated e-GIF compliance standards, whilst working with the British Standards Institute to develop the latest version of BS7666 (local land and property gazetteers).
The t-government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) Accreditation Authority has named CAPS Solutions, as one of the UK’s first e-GIF Accredited Organisations. The accreditation certifies that CAPS has the necessary technology and standards in place to deliver e-GIF projects effectively. Complying with the e-GIF is mandated widely across the UK public sector because it helps build sustainable, flexible systems now and saves costs in the immediate and longer terms as systems are upgraded or replaced. CAPS Solutions helped to establish the accreditation by becoming a founding sponsor in July 2004.
