UNI-form Gazetteer Management System:
The key to transforming services relating to land and property

The Gazetteer Management System (GMS) is at the heart of the UNI-form portfolio, delivering the single gazetteer that underlies every UNI-form solution, and providing you with a powerful tool for creating and managing a single source of geographical information for a wide variety of uses.

How the UNI-form Gazetteer Management System can help

With UNI-form GMS you can:

Define land, property and street locations and extents, creating spatial data within the same database that holds the textual data for these locations.

Control the quality and security of your data while enabling users to access and update it.

Export and import data in industry-standard formats to and from national and other local systems.

Provide your staff with browser-based access to geographical information, including maps.

Enhance online service to citizens with geographical information exported from your UNI-form GMS.

Improved data quality and usability

UNI-form GMS lets you make location data available across your authority, so that the same high-quality textual and spatial data can be used by teams delivering services as diverse as planning, building control, trading standards, housing and licensing.

With UNI-form GMS you'll:

Avoid the pitfalls and wastefulness of data duplication

Dramatically enhance data quality.

Ensure that data can be shared by all the teams that need it.

And because textual and spatial data are combined within a single system, it's straightforward to provide information in the form of maps, which are often easier to work with than text records.

Compliance combined with flexibility

UNI-form GMS is compliant with parts 1, 2 and 3 of BS 7666 Version 2, and it enables you to handle the standard's terminology, such as ESUs, USRNs and BLPUs, without confusion. But it can also store non-standard addresses, such as PO boxes, that don't comply with BS 7666 but are required by local authorities.

Enhanced service to citizens

With GMS in place, you can provide enhanced information and services directly to citizens via the web. By integrating your gazetteer with existing website applications, you can let citizens make location-dependent queries such as 'where's my nearest school?', and more accurately specify the location when they report a fault or problem.

Works well with...

All UNI-form solutions, particularly Street Naming and Numbering to complete the address-creation cycle.

National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG). Use the NIMEX Connector to transfer data to and from the NLPG hub in compliant format.

Third-party applications. Use the GMS Connector to set up real-time integration with other applications in use by your authority, including a CRM system or web services.

Multiple internal and external systems, including the NLPG. Use the GMS Exchange connector (spoke-and-hub solution) to participate fully in the Valuebill initiative for information-sharing.
